Comment on Want to see a $20,000 Logo? by Michael Cooney - EngNet

When I started writing the post I was thinking "$20,000 for a logo, that is ridiculous!", but after looking at logo design a little closer. I realized that if you are going to spend a substantial amount of money branding your company, it's a good idea to make sure your logo has been given a lot of thought.

Did you notice that since the Chris Brogan post he now has a new and much simpler logo. The $20,000 logo is gone! What does that tell you? Is the new logo from 99designs? Does that mean the $20,000 logo has been replaced by a $300 logo....Sometimes you don't need to spend a lot to get what you want, sometimes you strike it lucky and get an awesome logo for a couple hundred bucks.

I have been turning that idea around in my head since the blog post "How do we Stage an Online Marketing Strategy?" It's got me thinking what I can do better to to help clients visualize what their online marketing could be, if they jumped in with both feet.
Thanks for your comments.

I would pay good money to have a good logo designed. Would I sign off right away on a $20,000 check to get it done...I'm not so sure. I'd probably want to see some drafts first and go through the creative process.

I think long-term for anyone looking to take their brand seriously and develop it over the long-haul, it's well worth the investment.

On another note, I didn't know that about the Nike logo - GREAT story!

You know, I've never actually phrased the question this way but I like it: "How do we Stage an Online Marketing Strategy?"

We use case studies, educational materials in the form of ebooks and webinars to walk our clients through the process of placing their businesses on the web (my company specializes in web designs; blogs for the real estate industry). Sometimes that message is communicated clearly, other times, not so much.

In any case, as I said above, I like the way you've phrased the question and well, it's good food for thought moving forward... So thank you.

Kavi, Thanks for your comment.

I would like to hear more about your targeting strategies on Social Media. My post was more aimed at the PPC advertising model and I'm aware that there are many strategies people use to target social groups.
I would really like to hear about all the unique and interesting targeting methods used in social media.

Insightful article, but I don't know if I agree with your point RE: social isn't targeted.

A good social media outreach strategy includes focus and targeting. It involves listening and observing where the conversations are happening, and then using various outreach and conversational tactics that will influence the user to interact with your brand or service. You have to target it by what the user is into (like you said, interests), but also what they're talking about and what type of person they are. All this is detrimental to listening.
